FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – On the day CSU football coach Jim McElwain was honored with Mountain West coach of the year distinctions, it’s looking possible his success may land him a prestigious job at the University of Florida.
That was disappointing to some fans and CSU students on Tuesday night.
“It’s just a little nerve-racking. I’m kind of upset for our team because I’m sure they don’t want him to go either. It’s good having a nice coach that everyone really likes and wants to be around,” student Kendall Lee said.

McElwain began meeting with Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley and Foley’s staff around 4 p.m. at the coach’s home in Fort Collins.
Representatives told the media late Tuesday night they should leave since there wouldn’t be any further updates.
McElwain took over a 3-8 program in 2010. Four years later, it’s 10-2, nationally ranked and headed to a bowl game.
And if McElwain leaves, some of the excitement may depart with him, one student told CBS4.
“It’s the first time in years you’ve had to fight to get student tickets. All of a sudden he leaves, and that’s going to go away probably,” student Cole Jones said.
